President’s Pen – February, 2014
by Seth Task
It’s been an amazing 45 days! If you haven’t yet heard, the Task family grew by one. We welcomed Elliot Lincoln Task to the world on January 7th! He’s healthy, adorable and a wonderful reminder of why we all work so hard.
On January 15th I was officially sworn in as the first President of the Akron Cleveland Association of REALTORS®. 33 Past Presidents of ACAR’s founding Boards stood beside me and passed the gavel down through their ranks to me. To say it was overwhelming is an understatement. I pledge to serve the members and this industry to the best of my ability in honor of those who served before me. Our leadership team of Directors, Committee Chairs, Vice Chairs and committee members is truly a talent laden group and I want to personally thank them for their service to our organization and industry.
On to business! The Ohio Association of REALTORS® held its winter meetings January 19-21st in Columbus. Over 40 ACAR leaders represented the membership at committee and forum meetings. We attended educational sessions and the Board of Directors meeting. 2013 CABOR and AABOR RPAC Chairs Karen O’Donnell and Kim Barnowski accepted RPAC awards for raising the highest amount of RPAC dollars in our respective categories—totaling $98,000!
ACAR hosted a regional meeting with neighboring REALTOR® Associations including Lake Geauga, Medina, Portage, Stark, Warren Area, Wayne-Holmes and Youngstown. Opening lines of communication and sharing information about possible shared services opportunities were on the agenda. In March ACAR is hosting several of these Boards again for demos by electronic lockbox vendors. Maximizing our combined purchasing power is a huge benefit of regionalism and we will continue to explore those possibilities of working together.
Communication between Boards is important. Reaching out to the ACAR membership is even more important. During this first month I have met with three brokers, conducted three sales meetings, and spoke on behalf of ACAR at the general meeting of the Cleveland Realtists Association. ACAR CEO Sandy Naragon is also attending sales meetings and joined me with the Realtists. President-elect Sally Johnson and Treasurer June Harvey attended several installation ceremonies of neighboring associations and are also available for sales meetings. Brokers and managers call Sandy Naragon at 330-940-1502 or 216-525-4841. She’d be happy to coordinate a presentation with one of us.
Looking ahead—our next big event is the RPAC Auction scheduled for May 8th at the Shriner’s Hall in Broadview Heights. Join us for the annual silent and live auction to benefit the REALTORS® Political Action Committee, as we celebrate the Wizard of Oz’s 75th anniversary. You don’t want to miss it! Many other exciting things to come, so stay tuned!
