Akron Cleveland Real Estate Community Supports Local Food Banks
REALTORS® have a long-standing tradition of aiding those in need, and many volunteer their time and energy to improving the lives of others in communities throughout the world. The Akron Cleveland Association of REALTORS® (ACAR) recently sponsored volunteer days at the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank on April 16, and the Greater Cleveland Food Bank on April 23.
REALTORS® and Affiliate Members sorted and bagged over 10,000 lbs. of cucumbers and over 5,000 lbs. of peppers at the Akron location. The produce was then distributed to various agencies at the end of the week. This was the second ACAR volunteer day at the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank this year.
The volunteers were very grateful to give up some of their own time to help a great organization that helps so many unfortunate people.
Tara Kleckner, REALTOR® with Cutler Real Estate in Stow said, “I have volunteered twice at the food bank and both have been fun. This is a great organization that does a lot of good. I would definitely do it again.”
At the Greater Cleveland Food Bank over thirty REALTORS® and Affiliate Members sorted through many different types of food, paper products, baby items, etc. Volunteers checked expiration dates and inspected packaging for rips and tears. They also boxed items to be sent to soup kitchens, backpacks for kids and other agencies.
The volunteers were amazed at how quickly their two-hour shift went by. The time they gave was a great experience in helping to make an impact on the community.
Melissa Mentzer, REALTOR® with Howard Hanna in Rocky River said, “You really gain insight on just how many lives are touched by this organization. You really feel like a part of a much greater cause.”
At both food bank locations, the agencies were very impressed with the real estate community’s professionalism, teamwork and how quickly our volunteers were able to sort and package the items.
