How You Can Participate in NeighborWorks Week
REALTORS are committed to the welfare and prosperity of the communities where they live and work. As such, ACAR is a sponsor of NeighborWorks Week through the Real Estate Community Cares Fund. There are several opportunities for ACAR members to participate!
What is NeighborWorks Week?
This upcoming June 4-12, NeighborWorks America, and its network of local organizations, including NHS of Greater Cleveland, will mobilize tens of thousands of volunteers, businesses, neighbors, friends, and local and national elected and civic leaders in a week of neighborhood change and awareness – it’s all about neighbors helping neighbors! We are excited to once again partner with our good friends at Famicos Foundation to carry out our NeighborWorks Week 2016 plans. Our focus is on creating opportunity. Learn more about our projects!
Sat. June 4: A Home for All of Us
Neighborhood Housing Services of Greater Cleveland (NHS) is excited to partner with the block clubs of Ohio City, Ohio City Incorporated, St. Paul’s Community Church, and St. Paul’s Patch Community Garden to kick off NeighborWorks Week 2016! Long time councilman, Joe Cimperman, was instrumental in helping NHS obtain HOME funding to complete our West 45th Street Apartments and has been such a force in our communities to welcome refugees to the City of Cleveland. Did you know that three of the four families living at the West 45th Street Apartments are former refugee families? The block clubs of Ohio City have a great idea to highlight Joe Cimperman, who is leaving Cleveland City Council to lead Global Cleveland – they want to honor Joe with donations of time and funds to further the work of creating “A Home for All of Us” in Ohio City.
We will carry out a landscaping project at the West 45th Street Apartments, a beautification of St. Paul’s Patch Community Garden, and an overall neighborhood clean-up! The block clubs of Ohio City are also commissioning a plaque to honor Joe that will be installed at the West 45th Street Apartments.Learn More & Sign Up
Wed. June 8: Helping Hands in Hyacinth
NHS is excited to partner with Rebuilding Together Northeast Ohio and Slavic Village Development, to focus on beautification and clean-ups in the Hyacinth area of Broadway Slavic Village. Helping Hands in Hyacinth seeks to lay the necessary groundwork for Rebuilding Together Northeast Ohio’s Building a Healthy Neighborhood project happening later this year. Anytime that NHS can be involved with the intersection of Health and Home is an opportunity for us to learn and grow as an organization. Volunteers will beautify the Broadway Slavic Village but also engage with residents to share about programs and services available to help families fix their Homes.Learn More & Sign Up
Famicos Foundation is looking for volunteers for the Glenville Adopt-a-Block project on Friday, June 10 from 9am-2pm. Famicos has issued a neighborhood-wide request for proposals to become the block of choice for beautification and clean-up. A neighborhood committee will review applications and the winner will have their block adopted for one day. Volunteers will work to install plants, soil and mulch, and carry out a block clean-up. This is your perfect opportunity to get involved and make a difference! Lunch will be served for all volunteers. Rain or shine, Glenville Adopt-a-Block is still happening, so, dress appropriately!Learn More & Sign Up
