CABOR Celebrates Fair Housing Month
April 11, 2012, marked the 44th anniversary of the passage of the U.S. Fair Housing Law, Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968, as amended, which enunciates a national policy of Fair Housing without regard to race, color, creed, national origin, sex, familial status, and handicap, and encourages fair housing opportunities for all citizens.
As part of CABOR’s efforts to promote fair housing throughout Cuyahoga County and in honor of Fair Housing Month, we asked our local elected officials to consider issuing a proclamation announcing their city’s support of fair housing. As a result of those advocacy efforts, to date, Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson and Beachwood Mayor Merle Gorden each issued a proclamation doing just that. The City of South Euclid also passed a resolution (23-12) marking April as Fair Housing Month and urging its citizens to celebrate fair housing throughout the year. For more information about fair housing and to view the proclamations and resolution, check out the Advocacy page.
