Ohio Sales Tax Update – Encouraging news

The Ohio Association of REALTORS is encouraged by recent statements made by House Finance and Appropriations Chairman Rep. Ron Amstutz (R-Wooster), who announced that substantial changes are planned for Gov. Kasich’s tax revision proposal. Rep. Amstutz said he anticipates the House’s version of the budget will replace the Governor’s proposed sales tax expansion as a way of paying for the income tax cuts.

Bob Fletcher, OAR’s chief executive officer, explains how the organization will remain actively involved in the ongoing debate in the days and weeks ahead.

While this news is encouraging, it would be a mistake to assume that real estate will be protected in any revised proposal until it is approved. At a time when debate in Columbus is intensifying, the REALTOR® Party in the Cleveland area must “raise the volume” on this issue to make sure legislators are getting the message loud and clear: Do no harm to the housing market in Northeast Ohio.
