Tell Ohio Sens. Brown & Portman to ‘Do No Harm’ to real estate!
By Karen O’Donnell, Ohio Representative, REALTOR Party Member Involvement Committee
Think the Mortgage Interest Deduction is an important incentive for home ownership? What about the capital gain exemption on the sale of a primary residence?
Well…as the Daily Buzz reported earlier this week lawmakers on Capitol Hill will be launching a process to conduct a comprehensive review of our tax code. They’re calling it a “Blank Slate” approach…meaning that every tax credit and incentive in the tax code will be eliminated. Lawmakers will then debate which provisions are put back in and which one’s will stay out.
This process is starting quickly…first in the the US Senate. Our Senators — Sherrod Brown and Rob Portman — will have until July 26 to make their requests on what stays and what goes.
Long story short — NAR has issued a Call for Action urging every REALTOR across Ohio and throughout our nation to speak up and urge our lawmakers not to adversely affect the legacy of home ownership and real estate investment we have in our country.
I’m asking for your help in this matter. If each and every REALTOR throughout the Buckeye State — all 26,000 of us — took a few minutes to send Senators Brown and Portman a message…we will make a huge difference in this fight. This is one of the most critical challenges we have ever faced. Preserving the MID for the millions of property owners in Ohio and our nation is critical.
NAR has made it easy for you to add your voice to the discussion. Click here to access the Action Center. You simply type in your name and prepared message (or, if you prefer, a personal message) will be sent to Sen. Brown and Sen. Portman. Act now…it’s urgent.
