Blending Cultures & Building Relationships is ACAR’s Top Priority
By Seth Task, President
The magnitude of the merger of the Akron and Cleveland Associations of REALTORS continues to astonish me and my fellow ACAR leaders. Those who worked so tirelessly to accomplish this goal cannot be thanked enough, and we have a great deal more work to do to fully appreciate the fruits of their labor.
It’s really just beginning! The logistics of combining operations and structure are in the capable hands of CEO Sandy Naragon, COO Mike Valerino and the staff. The true blending of cultures falls to our leaders and members. Naturally, it takes time to build strong relationships. Leadership has made it a priority.
On April 24th, the Board of Directors, Committee Chairs, Vice Chairs, staff committee liaisons and members of the Strategic Planning Committee will participate in ACAR’s first Leadership Workshop. Leadership will attend communication training designed to foster cooperation and solidarity. Later in the day, the groundwork for ACAR’s strategic planning will be laid. Leadership will prioritize key objectives for the remainder of ACAR’s first year. Using this direction later in 2014, the Strategic Planning Committee will draw the map that will drive ACAR’s next three years.
In addition to appointing a Strategic Planning Committee, ACAR is also appointing a Facilities Task Force. These volunteer leaders will tackle some critical future decisions about where and how ACAR will be housed when our current leases in Independence and Akron expire in 2016. I’ll present rosters for both these important groups for approval at the March 27th Board of Directors meeting. If your skill-set and ambition would be a good match on one of them, shoot me an email SethTask@TaskHomes.com to be considered.
ACAR is also recruiting Directors! The Nominating Committee is accepting applications from members interested in serving on the Board. The real estate industry is changing rapidly and we are looking for members to help us strengthen our organization and its service to the membership. If you are interested in serving, please complete the candidate profile. If you have any questions call Therese Covell at (216) 525-4840. She will be happy to help you.
My last call to action is to all of our Brokers and Affiliates. As you know, one of the most important functions of REALTOR® associations is advocacy, protecting the property rights of clients and best interest of our industry. Our advocacy successes are directly related to our success with RPAC fundraising. We continue to try to make investing in RPAC great experience, and that continues with our Wizard of Oz themed auction on May 8! This event has been extremely successful in both Cleveland and Akron in years past and we expect our first combined auction to be one for the ages! That said, we need our Brokers and Affiliates to help out with donations of great auction items! Or, make it even easier on yourself and send money so Government Affairs Director Jamie McMillen shops for you! Items may be dropped off at either ACAR office location by May 1st. Mail checks to ACAR, Attn: Jamie McMillen, 5633 Brecksville Road, Independence, OH 44131. To pay by credit card for an item to be purchased for you call Jamie at 216-525-4834. Donations to purchase an item should be made by April 18th. Thanks SO MUCH for all of your support.
