ACAR Hires New Communications Director
ACAR recently hired Ralph J. Davila, APR, as its new communications director. Davila will handle all facets of the association’s marketing communications and public relations – from generating public awareness and increasing membership to building its social presence and managing the new brand.
“Having Ralph on board will bring a new dynamic to the way our association communicates to our members, stakeholders and the public,” mentioned Sandy Naragon, CEO of ACAR. “His background in PR, marketing, advertising, social media and digital communications is exactly what we were seeking. We fully expect that Ralph will bring ACAR’s new brand to the next level.”
In his most recent position, Davila was executive communications lead at a Fortune 100 financial firm in Cleveland, where he developed global executive coaching and thought leadership programs to drive the organization’s internal social media collaboration tools.
Davila has more than 13 years of experience, starting PR departments at boutique agencies across Northeast Ohio, as well as acting as the Conservancy for Cuyahoga Valley National Park’s first Director of PR and Marketing in 2011, handling its re-branding efforts. His background is in journalism and public relations, with a focus on social media marketing and digital communications. He holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Kent State University and holds his accreditation through the Public Relations Society of America.
Davila is a recipient of several awards, including PRSA’s most acclaimed award, the Bronze Anvil for “Best Feature Story” in 2010 for his client, the Road Runner Akron Marathon. He has also been published nationally and internationally for his work in PR, integrated marketing communications, advertising and media ethics. He is a regular speaker and lecturer for PBS, Kent State University and the University of Akron, as well as the Senior Counsel of Retired Executives (SCORE) and the PRSA.
He has served on the Board of Directors for the Akron Area PRSA Chapter since 2006, holding the office of President in 2012, and is currently the Website Chair and Assembly Delegate for his second term (eight years). He is also a committee member of Habitat for Humanity of Summit County and the Akron Advertising Federation (AAF).
Davila is originally from Youngstown, Ohio, and currently resides in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.
