OAR Call for Action: Help Reform Ohio’s municipal tax policies
Earlier this month Gov. John Kasich unveiled his Fiscal Years ’18-’19 Ohio budget. In an ongoing effort to reform the state’s tax policies and make Ohio a more attractive place to do business the Governor has proposed a positive change to our municipal income tax collection system.
Currently, REALTORS must file municipal income taxes based upon where the property sold is located. REALTORS must file multiple returns for each taxing jurisdiction in which they successfully complete a sale.
By moving to a method of single filing, business costs for REALTORS will be significantly reduced while still allowing cities to collect taxes vital to their existence. I encourage you to adopt meaningful change in simplifying what is a cumbersome system of local taxation.
What’s At Stake:
- Uncomplicated single-filing system for municipal tax returns.
- Decreased business costs.
