The Akron Cleveland Association of REALTORS (ACAR) is accepting applications for placemaking grants to support projects in Cuyahoga County or Portage County. A placemaking grant was awarded this summer to create a healing garden in Akron.
Placemaking means many things to different people, but ACAR looks at placemaking as a way to make communities better places to live by transforming unused and underused sites and “eyesores” into welcoming destinations accessible to everyone in a community. Placemaking projects are lighter, quicker, and affordable ways to create a community amenity.
Placemaking sites:
- Create community gathering places
- Attract residents and visitors
- Bring life to downtowns
- Support walkable communities
- Preserve open and green spaces
