Recently, an ACAR member shared information regarding possible changes coming to the riparian setback policy in Bath Township. “Riparian” is the land that runs along the sides of streams and rivers. A “Riparian Setback,” is a jurisdictional boundary set back from the bank of a river/stream
ACAR has confirmed a proposed amendment to the Bath Township Zoning Code would make changes to the Riparian Overlay District. As written, the proposed amendments apply to new and pre-existing structures within the setback areas.
In 2001, the then-Akron Area Board of REALTORS® engaged in similar legislation in Summit County. ACAR is currently referencing work previously done and applying it to the current proposed ordinance.
A Riparian Setback is a “do-not-disturb” area where building, developing, or any other change is prohibited.
