ACAR Board of Directors passes DEI statement, plans to establish new standing committee

At the Board of Directors meeting on August 24, 2022 members voted to pass six actions based on the report prepared by the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Presidential Advisory Group (DEI PAG).

The DEI PAG was established in 2020 in order to advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion in real estate. 2022 ACAR President Candice Eberhardt served as chair of the PAG and played an essential role in the preparation and presentation of this report.

"In my role as ACAR President, DEI initiatives are a major part of my vision," said Eberhardt. "We must remain proactive to ensure our industry prioritizes diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging."

This PAG was tasked with developing a DEI strategy to identify components of systemic oppression in real estate that exist in the Akron-Cleveland area, educating ACAR's membership and the public, and making recommendations to position ACAR as an agent of change and advance necessary reforms.

Several actions were taken based on recommendations from the PAG report. Highlights include the passage of the following statement:

ACAR and its partners unite to deliver intentional and strategic action steps to educate our respective members and advocate for legislative and regulatory changes that build diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging in the real estate industry

The Board also established a new standing committee for Diversity Equity and Inclusion to carry this work forward.  The comprehensive DEI PAG presentation is linked below and is available to all ACAR members.
