On the Horizon: ACAR Government Affairs Update

While it has certainly been a busy year with candidate interviews and various public policy challenges, ACAR’s advocacy efforts show no signs of slowing down as we head into to the 4th quarter of the year. Here’s a snapshot of what’s coming down the pike:

Placemaking - weather pending, ACAR will be assisting with the development of 2 placemaking sites this fall. One project is a pedestrian plaza near the W. 25th RTA Station in Cleveland. The second project is the creation of a pocket park in Akron. Volunteers for both projects will help with general site clean-up and light landscaping.

Homebuyer Education - The Community Outreach Council is pleased to partner with the Cuyahoga County Public Library on a homebuyer 101 course. The session will be about 90 minutes, with 2 sessions offered virtually and one in person (February 2023). This class is not a sales pitch but rather an opportunity for potential homebuyers to learn what to expect and how to prepare for the home-buying process.

Point of Sale Advocacy - ACAR’s Legislative Team will be coordinating meetings with various elected officials in key cities as we continue efforts to roll back point of sale policies. This policy continues to be a barrier to homeownership for many families. Advocacy efforts will continue on other relevant issues as needed.
