Our Committees

As a member-driven organization, Akron Cleveland Association of REALTORS® (ACAR) will rely on volunteer committees to pursue our strategic objectives and make recommendations to the ACAR Board of Directors. Working on a committee can be both challenging and rewarding. Committee Members stay informed of developments in the real estate industry at the local, state and national levels.

Community Outreach Council

About this Council

  • Composition: Shall have REALTOR® or Affiliate members in good standing.
  • Job: The committee shall plan and implement community outreach and retention programs. This committee also assists with other projects as requested, and the Charity fundraising efforts.

Meetings: The committee shall meet at the call of the chairman.

Grievance Committee

About this Committee

  • Composition: Shall have a maximum of 15 REALTOR® members in good standing. The members are required to attend the annual Professional Standards Training Session. Committee members will be appointed by the ACAR President with the approval of the Board of Directors.
  • Job: The members shall review ethics complaints to determine if an ethics hearing should be held. Arbitration requests are also review by this committee to evaluate for proper filing. Appropriate requests shall be forwarded to the Professional Standards for a hearing.
  • Meetings: The committee shall meet monthly unless there are no action items for the committee.

Young Professionals Network (YPN)

About this Network

YPN helps young real estate professionals excel in their careers by giving them the tools and encouragement to become involved in four core areas:

  • REALTOR® associations: Attend REALTOR® conferences and pursue leadership roles with their local, state, and national association.
  • Real estate industry: Take an active role in policy discussions and advocacy issues; be informed about the latest industry news and trends.
  • Peers: Network and learn from one another by attending events, participating in online communication, and seeking out mentoring opportunities.
  • Community: Become exceptional members of their community by demonstrating a high level of REALTOR® professionalism and volunteering for causes they feel passionate about.

Commercial Forum

About this Committee

  • Composition: Shall have REALTOR® and Affiliate Members in good standing. In order to serve on the Commercial/Industrial Forum, members must be a commercial property manager, REALTORS® must certify that a majority of their annual transactions be commercial and for affiliate that their job description include serving the commercial real estate market. Exception: REALTORS® in their first year of licensure who have not yet completed transactions but have declared their area of specialty to be commercial and have registered with NAR RCA.
  • Job: The Alliance shall provide ACAR’s Commercial Members with networking opportunities and credit classes pertaining to topics of interest to Commercial members. The Alliance shall also select the recipient of the Commercial REALTOR® of the Year award.
  • Meetings: The Committee shall meet at the call of the chairman.

Professional Development and Equal Opportunity Forum

About this Forum

  • Composition: Shall have REALTOR® or Affiliate members in good standing.
  • Job: Forum members assist with the planning and implementation of educational offerings held by ACAR. Educational offerings may be at ACAR’s Training Facility or off-site at other locations in ACAR’s jurisdiction. Task Force members will actively work with other ACAR Committees on joint projects. Task Force members will encourage ACAR members to participate at OR and NAR meetings, events and education. 
  • Meetings: The Forum shall meet at least twice per year.

Legislative Committee

About this Committee

The purpose of the Legislative Committee is to:

  • Review local legislation of significance to ACAR and determine action plan on proposal.
  • Assist OR and NAR on legislative initiatives developing at the state and federal levels.
  • Proactively further the interests of ACAR from an advocacy perspective.
  • Identify and monitor proposed legislation and regulatory changes.
  • Evaluate the impact on the real estate industry.
  • To formulate ACAR’S legislative agenda.

Membership on the Legislative Committee is available to any member of ACAR in good standing who is a donor to the REALTORS® Political Action Committee.

Member Services and Affiliates Council

About this Council

  • Composition: Shall have REALTOR® or Affiliate members in good standing.
  • Job: The committee shall plan and implement membership recruitment and retention programs. This committee also assists with other projects as requested. The Committee assists with event planning, creating programs that promote using an Affiliate, and discuss industry related issues.
  • Meetings: The committee shall meet at the call of the chairman.

Professional Standards Committee

About this Committee

  • Composition: Shall have no more than 50 REALTOR® members in good standing. All members of this committee shall have served at least one three-year term as a member of the Grievance Committee. Committee members will be appointed by the ACAR President with the approval of the Board of Directors.
  • Job: The members of this committee shall be assigned to hearing panels and as mediators.
  • Meetings: Except for the annual training session, this committee shall meet as needed.

REALTORS® Political Action Committee

About this Committee

The REALTORS® Political Action Committee of ACAR:

  • Reviews requests for contributions by candidates from RPAC and make recommendations to charter members responsible for formal vote.
  • Recommends candidates for endorsement to the Board of Directors for endorsement approval.
  • Determines appropriate RPAC contribution and forward to the Board of Directors for approval.

Committee members will be appointed by the ACAR President with the approval of the Board of Directors.

Communications Committee

About this Committee

The Communications Committee works to inform members about ACAR and its activities, promote the association’s programs and services, and advocate the value that REALTORS® bring to consumers and the community.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee

About this Committee

These committee members are appointed by the ACAR President with approval of the Board of Directors. The Diversity Equity and Inclusion Committee will work collaboratively to ensure a supportive and welcoming environment in which people of all backgrounds and demographic characteristics can work together.

Areas of focus include but are not limited to: relating diversity and inclusion to the company’s mission, values, and objectives, outlining key diversity and inclusion goals and actionable steps to achieve them, and helping institutionalize policies that support equity for all.
